That kind of operational overlap does not happen between two clubs that merely tolerate each other. It happens when the same company runs both, prices both under one membership structure, and expects members to use both. Sagamore sits about seven miles from Hawthorns, roughly a fifteen-minute drive up toward Noblesville, close enough that a Hamilton Proper family could play nine at home in the morning and be at the other clubhouse for dinner without noticing the drive.

The two clubs do not feel the same once you're there, which is part of the point. Hawthorns, designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1994, is built around family programming: junior golf, tots camp, Kids' Night Out, a full slate of youth activities layered onto the golf calendar. Sagamore describes itself in its own materials as casual and rustic, a resort-style club that draws young families and retired empty nesters in equal measure. It has earned real recognition for the golf itself, including a Golf Digest nod as one of the Top 10 Best New Private Courses in America in 2004 and a Top 5 ranking among Indiana courses in 2005. The current membership language on the club's own site is specific about what crosses over. A family membership includes unlimited access to the golf course and the simulators at both Hawthorns and Sagamore, along with:

That is not a discount on guest fees or a once-a-year reciprocal round. It is full, standing access to a second clubhouse, a second pool deck, and a second dining room, priced into the membership most Hamilton Proper households already carry. A 2025 write-up in Midwest Golf Magazine specifically flagged a tier called the Titanium Dual Gold Membership as the way to lock in full access to both properties, describing it as two country club memberships for one monthly payment. Whether your current category already includes that access or sits one tier below it is a five-minute question for Chris Tully's office, not a mystery that requires guesswork. Hamilton Proper spans 23 distinct villages by the Hamilton Proper Community Association's own count, from wooded lots backing up to wetlands to golf-course frontage homes along the fairways themselves. Chestnut Hill and The Woods are two of the more established names among them, and the mix of architecture and lot size across the 23 shifts noticeably as you move from one village to the next. What does not shift is the club math. Whether a household sits in a village with a fairway view or one set back near the wetlands, the membership tied to that address behaves the same way at both clubhouses.

That consistency is easy to overlook precisely because Hamilton Proper works so well as a self-contained community. The club is close enough to feel like a backyard amenity rather than a destination, which is exactly why the second course fifteen minutes away gets treated as optional. It isn't optional in the sense that matters. It is already paid for.
